With more than 50 vendors featuring a wide assortment of gourmet chocolates and other delights, Chocolate World Expo 2009 is expected to be among the largest retail-level chocolate shows in the United States. This event, which will take place on Sunday, March 29th, at the Palisades Center in West Nyack, NY, 11am-7pm, will also offer an outstanding selection of baked goods, specialty foods, ice cream, cheeses, wine and beer. As an extra special bonus to the first 4,000 attendees, Chocolate World Expo sponsor Viva(R) Paper Towels will be providing free ice cream sundaes using premium ice cream from the Ives family dairy farm in Norwich, New York.
Participating vendors include Oliver Kita Fine Confections, Heidi & Arthur Chocolatiers, Isn’t It Sweet, Red Thread Confections, Black & White Cookie Company, Lanie Lou’s Brownies, Cabot Creamery, Dutch Desserts, Pazdar Winery, Metropolitans Chocolate, Catharine Valley Winery, Travel Chocolate, Beechwood House Originals, ChocAlive!, Awesome Specialties, Chocolations, Defiant Brewing Company, Boca Dulce, Slyboro Ciderhouse, Suzanne’s Sweets and many others.
This year’s Chocolate World Expo coincides with New York’s Quadricentennial celebration, which commemorates the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s exploration of the river that now bears his name. To highlight the region’s heritage, Holland-based cocoa maker Rademaker and Dutch cheese producer Beemster will be participating.
In addition to the Dutch specialties, Chocolate World Expo 2009 will also offer a variety of all-natural, organic, raw, fair trade, sugar-free, low-glycemic, kosher and Latino-style products to suit a variety of dietary needs and tastes. As part of its unique appeal to a broad cross-section of chocolate lovers, Chocolate World Expo is the only major chocolate show in the New York metropolitan area where people can enjoy both chocolate bon bons and chocolate beer.
Aurora Gourmet will host lavish white, dark and milk chocolate dipping fountains with strawberries, marshmallows and rice crispy treats, while for the more adventuresome and unconventional, there will be chocolate-covered pickles from PickleLicious and chocolate-dipped roasted garlic from Spacey Tracy.
Besides offering a unique culinary experience, Chocolate World Expo is also known for having great entertainment. Headlining this year’s musical lineup is Joe D’Urso & Stone Caravan, which has performed around the world and served as opening act for the likes of Bruce Springsteen, the Allman Brothers and Joan Osborne. Other performers include rock duo Better Days and the very talented a cappella singing group Wide Variety. In addition, Girsa and Shea will perform traditional Irish music.
Chocolate World Expo is a Baum Image Group event presented by the Venture Foundation to benefit quality-of-life services for more than 1,500 children and adults with developmental disabilities in Camp Venture’s programs and community residences.
Headline sponsors for Chocolate World Expo 2009 include the Palisades Center and The Journal News/LoHud.com. Major sponsors for the show are Viva(R) Paper Towels and KDF Graphics. Additional support is provided by the Rockland County Office of Tourism.
