New and improved Xbox controller from Microsoft

xbox-dpadMicrosoft: All Xbox users know that the D-Pad on Microsoft’s controller is a piece of… well, not quite good when it comes to precise movements in games. For fighting games and shooters, a third party Xbox controller is a must. This is the problem Microsoft tries to solve with the new Xbox controller set to be released on the 9th of November.

The major improvement on the new controller is the new D-Pad. It’s transforming. No, it won’t turn into a huge robot. The controller’s redesigned directional pad can now be used in two distinct modes: one of them is the classic plus-shaped directional controller, the other is a disk-like mode when the d-pad works almost like a thumbstick, making it ideal for sweeping movements.

The only downside of the new controller that it will only be available with the Play & Charge Kit, for a price of $64.99.

Those lucky enough to meet Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb at the PAX Prime  (Penny Arcade eXpo 2010) this Sunday in Seattle will have the occasion to go home with a new and improved Xbox controller (with transforming D-pad).
