Tropical Storm Hermine may hit Texas this week

Tropical-StormTropical storm Hermine that has formed in the south-west part of the Gulf of Mexico might reach the Texas area on Tuesday and is expected to bring quite a significant amount of rainfall to the Dallas – Forth Worth area.

The tropical depression that has later become Hermine has formed over the southwestern part of the Gulf on Sunday. The depression was upgraded to tropical storm status on Monday morning. The storm is moving North at a speed of 8 miles per hour and has sustained winds of 40 miles per hour.

According to the NHC, the storm is moving northward and is expected to reach the central and northern part of Texas on Wednesday. Hermine is not expected to gain strength and become a hurricane, although it might reach the Category 1 hurricane status later, but its growth potential is reduced by the relatively short time it spends over water.

The areas in Hermine’s path may experience very heavy rainfall, up to 4-8 inches.

Hermine is the eighth named tropical storm of this year – this hurricane season seems to be an active one in the Atlantic Basin.
