The-Expendables

U.S. Box Office: Since Friday, everybody was wondering who’s going to dominate the box office this weekend and now the answer is here: The Expendables. Although the reviews for “Eat Pray Love” were good, the movie wasn’t so appealing to the North American and Canadian audience as “The Expendables” was.

The Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. movie earned $35 million, while the Sony Corp. production came in second with only $23.7 million. This means that Silvester Stallone was more popular than Julia Roberts and that the former ’80s action movie star still has it when it comes about cinema ticket sales. It was a testosterone weekend after all!

Fans across the world were anxiously waiting for the movie directed by Silvester Stallone and features himself, Jet Li, Steve Austin, Dolph Lundgren, Jason Stratham, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger. This is the first Lions Gate movie to come at no. 1 in Box Office since “Kick-Ass” earlier this year.

As for “Eat Pray Love”, the movie based on the same novel written by Elizabeth Gilbert, although Julia Roberts can still make you want to sit down and watch her, the film failed to top the box office. Julia is Liz Gilbert, a divorcée who travels the world in search for a meaning in her life.

Close behing “Eat Pray Love”, on the third place there’s “The Other Guys”, a Sony picture featuring Will Ferrell as a forensic accountant who partners with Mark Wahlberg. In the last two weeks the movie made $70.5 million.

On the forth place there’s Inception, the Time Warner Inc. Warner Bros made $11.4 million this weekend, making a total of $248.6 million since its July 16 release. This is Leonardo Di Caprio’s year!

The top 5 closes with “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”, a Universal film which made a total of $10.5 million.

Here’s the Top 10 BoxOffice for 13-15 August 2010:
