vuvuzelaWorld Cup 2010: Vuvuzelas, or lepatats are a type of stadium horns, commonly blown by most of the football fans at the World Cup 2010.

These improvised instruments are made of plastic, are approximately one meter long and require a lot of lung strength for a loud noise to be produced. The noise is similar to the one produced by an elephant.

Unfortunately vuvuzelas caused a lot of trouble since 2001, when the South African company began to mass produce them.

Doctors attracted attention to the risks that might appear when surrounded by a crowd of fans blowing the noisy instruments. The main risk is permanent or temporary hearing loss so that wearing a pair of ear plugs is a good ideea when attending a World Cup 2010 game.

Other important health risks involve spreading airborne germs or other diseases, when sharing the same vuvuzela with other supporters.
